The nationwide increase in students attending community colleges this Fall semester has not gone unnoticed in Lindale, Texas.

Tyler Junior College - Lindale has a college credit enrollment of 108, which includes 20-full time students taking classes in TJC-Lindale's new licensed vocational nursing program.  It is a dramatic increase from the Fall of 2008, the first year for classes at the facility.  TJC-Lindale is located in the Identity Center complex on Main Street, about 1-mile north of Interstate 20.

There are 19 sections of credit courses being offered at the TJC-Lindale campus.

In addition to credit classes at the facility, TJC-Lindale is offering a wide range of continuing educaiton courses this semester, ranging from computer basics to art.

There are also 14 dual credit classes being offered to students of Lindale High School, allowing students to complete college credit prior to high school graduation.  Lindale High School has more students participating in dual credit than any other high school in the area.

Enrollment for dual credit is not complete, but as many as 200 enrollments through Lindale High School are anticipated, meaning TJC-Lindale will likely be serving more than 300 credit students this semester.

"Our relationship witht he Lindale community is growing stronger each day," said TJC Dean of Continuing Studies, Dr. Aubrey Sharpe, who supervises TJC-Lindale.  "We are pleased at the enrollment and the interst that has been shown for courses in Lindale.  It is a terific partnership."

TJC-Lindale Site Manager, Heather Stokke joined the college in August and is working with Lindale Independent School District officials and the Lindale Chamber of Commerce to strengthen the partnership.

"We have discussed a number of innovative ideas with community leaders.  OUr goal is to be a resource to Lindale citizens, and those in surrounding areas.  We want them to know we are here to serve and proud to be a part of this great community," she said.

Stokke said plans are being developed for a community open house, to showcase TJC-Lindale and provide information about credit and non-credit offerings.
